rally at Kidda. He received a rousing welcome from 4000 people who were so
excited and enthusiastic that they literally accompanied him to the next
rally venue at Tengeza.
In his remarks at Tengeza, Kizza Besigye said people
are telling Museveni to go because he has forgotten them. People
have assessed Museveni’s performance and seen that poverty is increasing, there
are no social services, no medicine in hospitals, and the quality of
education is poor so they have decided to elect a FDC leaders to replace
Museveni’s government.
Hear-Hear-Hear!!! Thousands of FDC supporters at KB's rally in
Kyazanga
At
Namukaka there were about 5000 people and KB addressed them briefly before
heading to Kabonera where people threw flowers in the road to welcome him. He drove
through to Kyamulibwa waved and reached Bukoto where he addressed 6,000
people, repeating the same message on poverty eradication through
responsible leadership.
At 1:32 p.m. KB arrived at
Kiwangala and upon
thanking people for their
prayers while in jail drew lengthy ululation from the crowd. KB said all
Ugandans were now on ‘Bunkenke” (tension) and people have been relegated
to eating fish bones, while women are losing children in hospital because
there is no medicine. He decried the failure of government to create jobs
for students who leave institutions of learning and find themselves
unemployed for years. He promised that all this was about to change
because Museveni is going.
At 3:19 p.m. Kizza Besigye
was at Kyazanga where he received a thunderous welcome from about 15,000
people. He said that while ordinary Ugandans have been forced by poverty
to eat fish bones, NRM leaders had stolen all they could from the
country’s treasury and then crossed to DRC to plunder there as well. He
said in 2001 we chased graduated tax and now it is time to chase heavy
indirect taxes. He castigated Museveni for going around the country with
pick-up loads of campaign posters instead of taking pick-up loads of drugs
to hospitals. At Kyazanga, Kizza Besigye received into FDC Lawrence
Matovu National Chairman of Uganda Young Movement and Charles Jaggwe
Chairman of Uganda Young Movement for Buganda region.
Welcome aboard! KB receives the National Chairman of Uganda young
movements who crossed to FDC in Kyazanga.
At Mbirizi KB thanked about
10,000 people for their prayers. He told them that Museveni had left the
people who sent him to State House and now people have also decided to
leave him. He asked supporters to vote for leaders who will work with the
new FDC government to improve people’s lives.
At 5:00 p.m. the entourage
arrived in Mateete to a rousing welcome from about 30,000 people. KB
elaborated that people pay taxes so that government works for them.
Instead of working for the people those in the NRM government work for
themselves and then wait for election time to form women and youth groups
to whom they distribute a few coins. He said that ironically election
campaigns have become the time for corrupt leaders to bring back to the
people some of the money stolen through scandals like the valley dams and
Global Fund for AIDS fiascos. He added that the thieving, which has been
going on for 20 years, would stop when FDC gets into government in May
2006. He told people that whereas Museveni says he is not leaving power
it is not up to him to decide but the people who sent him to State House
are the only authority and when they decide that he must leave then he has
to go. At Mateete KB was given a symbolic key to State House.
KB then addressed a final
rally of about 6,000 people in Sembabule Town before proceeding to Masaka
town where he spoke on Radio Buddu. Dr. Suleiman Kiggundu, Mr. Kanamala
Kanamwangi, Justin Jjukko forme international boxer, Livingstone Kizito,
and Hon. Yona Kanyomozi accompanied him on today’s campaign trip.
Tomorrow after court the
campaign heads to Western Uganda.
Ends.
