FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday 12th January 12, 2006

FDC Campaign News:

FDC Party President Col. (rtd.) Kizza Besigye addressed tens of
thousands of supporters at two rallies in Kampala District today
Thursday 12th January 2006.

The first rally was held at Kasubi Tombs in the outskirts of Kampala
City and was also addressed by FDC Party Chairman Dr. Suleiman
Kiggundu and Special Envoy to the Party President, Beti Kamya, who
is also contesting for the Lubaga North Parliamentary seat. The second
rally took place at the football ground in Natete close to where KB was
publicly arrested by military men and police on November 14th 2005.
Tens of thousands of supporters filled the football pitch and spilled into
the highway to welcome their hero recently returned from jail.

In his remarks, Kizza Besigye blamed President Museveni for letting
down the people of Buganda by refusing to honor their demands on
federalism after they had sacrificed so much for NRM during the war
in Luweero.  He castigated President Museveni for interfering in the
running of Buganda’s affairs by trying to impose on Buganda an
elected Katikkiro against their wishes.

Kizza Besigye pointed out that the demands of Buganda, were
submitted, to the 1994 Constituent Assembly in the Odoki Report
and clearly called for federal status and not a Regional tier system,
which Museveni now wanted to impose.

He also advised the Baganda to reject Museveni’s attempts to
impose an elected Katikkiro since they had expressed a clear wish
for a Katikkiro appointed by the Kabaka.

Kizza Besigye received deafening applause when he pledged that
an FDC government would grant the federal status demanded by
the Baganda in the Odoki Report and that FDC would not impose an
elected Katikkiro on Buganda.

The FDC party presidential candidate also pledged to raise the
salaries of teachers, policemen, and civil servants.  He pledged
that FDC would build the country’s economy through policies that
enabled easier and wider access to loans with low interest rates.
Kizza Besigye decried the poor condition of transport infrastructure
in Buganda and promised to build roads and railway lines to ease
transport problems. At Kasubi Tombs, Kizza Besigye was given a
symbolic key to State House as well as a spear and shield to
protect the nation.

Tomorrow Friday January 13th 2006, Kizza Besigye will attend the
court hearing in Kampala after which he will head to Masaka to
