On Wednesday 11th December  2005, at 12:15 hours at Mandela stadium, Col. (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, Forum For Democratic Change Party President, was  officially declared  presidential candidate in the March 2006 polls by the elections commission. With KB prevented from attending the nomination ceremony, his  portrait  was placed  on an empty chair  in the middle of a row of  FDC leaders who handed in his nomination papers. Listen

Monday January 02, 2006, Uganda's High Court ordered  the release of Dr. Besigye and he was set  free on bail. He had been illegally detained and in prison since his return from exile in November on trumped up treason, rape, firearms and terrorism charges.  MORE
